— LEGISLATION

What does the new legislation provide?

Law 5239/2025 — Article 39 provides that the employer must provide employees with training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the Heimlich manoeuvre. The training method depends on the number of employees at the facility.

UP TO 50 EMPLOYEES

Facility with up to 50 employees

“Training is provided through educational videos and material made available free of charge by the Ministry of Labour and Social Security.”

OVER 50 EMPLOYEES

Facility with more than 50 employees

“Training is provided through courses by certified first aid training providers to half of the facility's employees, at least every three years.”

Important: the 50-employee threshold applies to the facility — that is, the specific workplace — and not to the company as a whole.
